I’m very excited to receive my first ever blogging award nomination, the Liebster award. This is a virtual award given by bloggers, to bloggers. It’s a way to celebrate smaller blogs and acknowledge their contribution and effort towards the blogging world. It’s also a great way for new bloggers to get discovered and grow their network.
Thanks to Sarah from Our 21st Century Odyssey. Sarah and her partner, Tim, are and adventure travel couple who blog about their adventures from around the world. They’ve visited all 7 continents and I’m currently obsessed with their Instagram feed! Go and check them out.
About Tasha’s Oyster
I started my blog as an online travel diary two years ago. Over time, my love of blogging grew and I wanted to develop my blog into something I could be proud of. I have a passion for nature, wildlife and sustainable travel and aim to promote this as much as possible in my writing. I like to share beautiful places I have visited in the hope that I can inspire others to visit these places too.

What Makes me Passionate about Blogging
On every big trip, I always write a diary. As soon as I’m home I want to do more to remember and reminisce about my trip. Blogging is a great way to do this as I can read back my old blog posts to remember incredible moments. Another huge reason I blog is because I’d love to inspire others to travel around the world. I’m hoping to do this through my writing and photos.
If you could relive one trip you’ve been on, what would it be and why?
I would have to my trip last year to Sri Lanka. I spent the first two weeks volunteering with wild elephants. I loved our rustic accommodation in the middle of nowhere, learning from wildlife conservationists and ending each day by observing elephants below the sunset each day. Then to top off an incredible experience volunteering, my boyfriend, Mike, flew out to meet me and we spent the next three weeks travelling the country. It was simply perfect.
What is the best meal you’ve had while traveling?
I love food so this is the perfect question for me! It’s also a tricky one because I have tried many delicious dishes around the world. My favourite is probably the mango and sticky rice in Thailand. I haven’t been able to get it anywhere else and I’ve no idea how to make it so I’m constantly thinking about getting a mango and sticky rice from one of the street stalls.
What has been your biggest travel splurge, and was it worth it?
My biggest travel splurges have probably been my volunteering trips and they were worth every penny. I learnt so much and got to see incredible animals in the wild. I’ve got volunteering in Borneo booked for this year, can’t wait!
If you could gift a trip of a lifetime to a loved one, who would it be, and where would you send them?
I suppose I can’t choose Mike because I’d hope to go on the best trips with him! I know my mum and step-dad, however, would love to visit Antarctica on a Frozen Planet cruise so I’d give that to them. I can only imagine the beautiful scenery and wildlife she’d see there.
What’s the number one activity you recommend to visitors in your hometown?
I live in a tiny village so there’s not a huge amount to do but there is a beautiful forest: Hatfield Forest which is lovely to walk through. It looks even more magical in the snow! Another thing I love doing in the English country side is going strawberry picking. My mum and I go each year together and make strawberry ice cream! It’s been our tradition for as long as I can remember.
Where are you heading on your next trip, and why did you choose that destination?
My next trip is to Switzerland with my family. My mums side of the family are from Switzerland so we try to visit the country as often as possible (though a lot of our family over there have passed away now). This trip, we’ll be visiting Interlaken where we plan on doing lots of hikes and maybe even paragliding too!
What’s your favorite guilty pleasure TV show?
Definitely Love Island (don’t judge me!). It’s just so addictive and easy to watch.
What can you simply not travel without?
My passport! Haha but seriously, it would have to be my camera. I love looking back on travel photos and reminiscing incredible moments. Without my camera, I wouldn’t be able to do this.
Have you ever had to go to a doctor or hospital while abroad? Tell me about it.
I actually fell seriously ill in Croatia. I repeatedly went to the hospital there but they told me it was only the flu. As soon as I got back to England, I was rushed to hospital and eventually diagnosed with Meningitis. It was a horrible experience and affected me both mentally and physically for a long time, but what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger right?
What’s your best packing tip?
My best packing tip would be to put all the clothes you want to take in a pile, and then half it. I’ve always regretted the times I’ve over-packed. Only take what you’ll need. Also I do love packing cubes.
Tell me the story behind your most recent Instagram pic:
My last Instagram photo was taken on my recent trip to Italy. It includes me on a stunning hike in the Almalfi Coast. We’d originally planned to hike the Path of the Gods but when we found out it was closed, we chose to do a local hike instead and I’m so pleased we did! It’s a lesser known hike and I’ll be posting a blog about it soon.
